The Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition DCN program is designed for students with a registered dietitian credential RDN , with current professional licensure when required by their state, a Master's degree, and currently working in the field of nutrition and dietetics. This advanced degree will broaden the knowledge base and enhance critical thinking skills to keep pace with the medical complexity of today's clinical nutrition practice. Students will expand their interprofessional experiences, communication skills, medical nutrition therapy skills, management and leadership skills, and research. The program is offered by the KU Department of Dietetics. Graduates will be prepared for leadership roles in clinical nutrition or higher education settings through cutting-edge coursework and completion of outcomes-based research projects. Critical Creative Thinking: The Difference Between Surviving and Thriving for Dietetics
A practice paper is a critical analysis of the current research literature that addresses a practice topic to translate science to practice. It provides registered dietitian nutritionists RDNs and dietetic technicians, registered DTRs with information to enhance critical reasoning and quality improvement in dietetics practice. Active practice papers are available on eatrightPRO. Once expired, they are removed and only available in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. From August to July , practice papers were published online with only the abstract published in the Journal.
August Issue. Dietitians often hear some unusual things, because clients, patients, and other members of the public have trouble parsing through the myriad claims they hear about nutrition. Failures in critical thinking can result in unnecessarily complicated diets instead of important dietary changes that really could improve health. Behavioral scientists have been studying critical thinking failure for decades; much has been learned about why critical thinking failure occurs and what to do about it. Respondents also offered their views on the causes of critical thinking failure and what needs to be done about it.
