The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the pleas filed by former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh and the state government that challenged a CBI probe into allegation charges levelled against him by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. It also observed that corruption charges, the nature of allegations against Deshmukh and the persons involved require investigation by an independent agency. However, Deshmukh told the top court that oral allegations were made against him without any substance and a CBI probe was ordered by the high court without hearing him. It is only preliminary enquiry and nothing is wrong in it when serious allegations are made by senior officer against a senior minister, the bench said when counsel for Deshmukh alleged that oral allegations were made without any substance and CBI probe was ordered without hearing him.
