Have you ever felt scared when you are put in a foreign situation for the first time? You probably felt it was scary at first but afterwards you might have found it very amazing. Experience is what everybody may have to go through eventually. I was always afraid of experiencing new things because of fear in me. As I got older, however, I realized that going through these experiences could be very beneficial and a lot of fun. Something I did not know at the time, however ,going through this ride would end up being beneficial to me and also over come my fear.

The airplane is a very normal word today. But it is a new word at least a hundred years. A lot of people believe that airplanes bring many benefits to our life. I agree with this idea because airplanes are one of the greatest inventions of the twentieth century. I believe airplane design is very important when trying to see how far a paper airplane will fly. The different shape and narrowness or width as well as weight distribution are all factors in flight distance. So if I have a narrow paper airplane, a very wide one, and one in between, which on will fly the farthest?

This short story encompasses many of the questions touched on in class that are integral parts of early American literature. There are even parts of this piece that expand onto subjects that the class did not discuss. In looking at the genre, ideas, topics, and my personal reaction to this piece, one is able to understand why the captivity narrative of Hammon would add insight into this American literature course. These immigrants came to America in search of the "American Dream" of freedom and a better way of life, and their narratives have been recorded by various authors in both fiction and non-fiction stories. But can the fiction genre be considered a reliable source for studying the immigrant narrative?
